Independence Day!

Well, not actually a day, but definitely a trend! Brayden has begun to assert his own independence. I knew the day would come...and I have wanted him to feel more comfortable away from us. I have even prayed that he would feel more at ease. I think the time is arriving.

A few weeks ago at church, we did not take anything for him--no books, no Cheerios, no juice, no trains. Every time he asked for one, we would reply, "No, we don't have those, but they do in the nursery." That seemed to appease him, but we could see the wheels turning. It only took a few minutes before he said that HE wanted to go to the nursery, too.

You have to understand: He NEVER wanted to go before. We did not push the issue because he felt so adamant about staying with us.

Imagine our surprise when he went to nursery and STAYED! Every time the door out of the sanctuary opened, we whipped our heads around to see if it was him.

When we returned home, ecstatic to have enjoyed an entire message in peace, he looked at me and smiled when he announced, "I want to go to Sunday School by myself and Mommy stay in church." I tried not to overreact, but it is so uncharacteristic of him.

So Sunday came, and his enthusiasm was still there. I held my breath as he walked to his classroom all my himself...the first of many times to come.
