Finally, he's here! It has been a long wait for David Michael, but our families are so excited that he was born healthy, especially considering the potential dangers to his health:

1. The possibility for Group B Strep

2. The cord was wrapped three times around his neck (thankfully, we didn't know
about that one until after he was born).

3. Bowel movement the day before he was born

We praise God that everything turned out well, and we get to experience his life.

We all stood outside the hospital nursery, oohing and aahing as the nurse weighed him, cleaned him and checked his vitals. I couldn't help but think about Brayden's birth--he was about the same size as David Michael when he was born, and he had a lot of hair, too. But instead of the fanfair of family and watchful medical team, he was discharged at less than one day old, and I presume, they released his birthmother less than 24 hours postpartum.

I don't feel cheated that we weren't there because I have been enormously blessed by the experience of waiting for our son who was born elsewhere, but I am quite sad that we didn't get to coo over the faces he made or admire his perfect little fingers and toes.

Perfect time for nostalgia, right?

WRONG!

The whole time we were at the hospital today before heading back to our side of the state, Brayden wwwwhhhhiiiinnnneeeedddd (Let the picture below serve as proof)! He was tired of being away from home! In the hospital video, his contant whine nearly overrides the other voices. As soon as we arrived home, four hours later, he walked over to his toys and inspected each one, and then he took a tour of the downstairs, just to make sure it was all still here.

And then, he was back to normal.

We may not have seen his first gassy grin as an infant, but we're certainly knee-deep in his toddler years!

Happy one day old, David Michael! (and welcome back, son we love!)
