It seems I have already forgotten so much about our vacation. I can remember thinking at various times, "I want to write that down because it is important." Ah, too bad I don't have enough time to write as I would like, nor is is my memory that good anymore...

If there is one thing I learned about my parenting skills on this trip, it's that I push Brayden too hard; I also learned that my son does not respond well to coercion. He has his own timetable and comfort level. He decides when he is ready to do something, if ever at all. I forget that he is still just two and that so many experiences are overwhelming right now--like the entire Gulf of Mexico staring him in the face and wanting to take him down. I am sure that is what it looked like to him (considering that he is only three feet tall and thirty pounds).

My very wise sister ery gently lured him to the ocean edge with a game. Before I knew it, he was running along the shore fearlessly. It was the day before we returned home, so he didn't get to spend much time in the water, but that was okay with him.

Lesson learned? I sure hope I have.

On the subject of water--Brayden LOVES to swim wearing floaties. He keeps his mouth shut tightly while making the cutest little laughing sounds. Also, he does not want help ("No touch me!") until he realizes that he can't move very quickly.
