The day started early today, 6:06 to be exact, and Brayden DID NOT want to wake up! We tried to explain to him that this was a very important day in our lives, but he wanted to snooze. After a little coercsion, he awoke and we dressed him in his little brown courdorys and white sweater.
At 7:05, we left for the Embassy. It was full of native Guatemalans inside and out who were trying to renew their VISAS, and in a back room, there were countless American and European families in the same situation as us--finalizing the paperwork to bring their children home. I can't imagine how shutting down the adoptions to the U.S. in 2008 will impact this country.
After nearly 3.5 hours at the Embassy, our names were called. Brayden had conked out half an hour earlier and was asleep through the entire process, but it was finally over, and he is officially ours.
By 3:30 tomorrow, his Visa will be ready, and we can bring him home.
We began this process October 19th, 2006...We finished October 15, 2007...
