The *Big* Reveal

Tomorrow, Christmas Eve, we are planning to let our families know about what we've been up to these past few months. It has been difficult doing all of this exciting stuff without involving them, but I really wanted to wait until we received our referral before telling everyone. Although we do not know which child is ours yet, Christmas Eve seemed a nice time to reveal the news.

I am a bit nervous because I'm not sure how everyone will react. Some people already know because they were involved in the process one way or another--some reacted as anyone would for a couple who has been trying to conceive as long as we have. Others smile politely and offer an "Oh, really? How nice." Still others give us the "How nice of you to save some poor child from a life of poverty" as if we are saints or something. The truth is, we're doing this for selfish reasons, really. It's not just to give some poor orphan a better life (although it does feel nice that it's so). I just want this to be received well by those closest to us.

Merry Christmas to all--especially to our Guatemalan baby
